ALLMAN, Samuel Harold
May 13, 1933 - May 17, 2020 We are most sad to announce the passing of Sam Allman, after a long hospitalization and brief hospice stay. Sam was born in St Boniface, Manitoba to Ervin and Jessie Allman. His early years were spent in Winnipeg surrounded by his large and loving extended Rusoff family. When he was nine years old Sam moved with his family to Vancouver, and made lifelong friends while attending Richmond High School, Kitsilano Secondary School and the University of British Columbia. In 1954 Sam met his wife Ruth (née Chess) at a 20-40 dance. After some adventurous travel, they settled in Vancouver to raise their family. Sam's working life involved a wide range of roles, from nightclub entertainer to real estate developer, from auto mechanic to radio host and seminar speaker. Sam was known for his quick wit and sense of humour. He was a consummate storyteller ("Never let the truth get in the way of a good story"), a voracious reader, a world traveler, and a passionate cook. His interests over a lifetime were many, but first and foremost in his affections was his family. In later years Sam often mused that he was the most fortunate of men for the life he had lived and the family and friends who surrounded him. Sam was predeceased by his beloved older brother Sheldon, and is survived by wife Ruth, children David, Daniel, Deborah and Kathy, grandchildren Jared, Maxwell and Stephen, and great-grandchildren Jack and Ben. His family would like to thank Dr. John Joffe and the medical teams at Vancouver General Hospital and St. John Hospice. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
