Eight Cineplex theatres to reopen in B.C. Friday with $5 tickets

- STEPHANIE IP

A number of B.C. Cineplex theatres will reopen this Friday with a $5 ticket special.

Cineplex announced earlier this week that eight theatres were set to reopen by week’s end as part of a phased reopening plan. The chain has 16 other theatres in B.C. that will reopen later in July.

All theatres will reopen with enhanced safety and cleaning measures, as well as reserved seating and reduced capacities in all auditoriums across the country, with seating options spaced for physical distancing.

The theatres reopening this Friday include:

Cineplex Cinemas Metropolis, Burnaby

Cineplex Cinemas Orchard Plaza, Kelowna

Cineplex Cinemas Langley

Galaxy Cinemas Nanaimo

SilverCity Riverport Cinemas, Richmond

Cineplex Cinemas Strawberry Hill, Surrey

Scotiabank Theatre Vancouver

SilverCity Victoria Cinemas

Purchases at theatres will also be restricted to debit or credit only, with the exception of gift-card purchases, while food offerings will be limited.

“The past three months have given us a new appreciation for the importance of friends and family and the power of shared experiences with those we love,” said Ellis Jacob, president of Cineplex. “Entertaining is what we do best, and we simply can’t wait to safely welcome guests back.”

Cineplex is offering $5 for movies such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Jumanji: The Next Level, Bad Boys for Life, Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, and I Still Believe.
