- STEPHANIE IP

Local punk legend turned city councillor Joe Keithley has teamed up with Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley for a new rock anthem.

The pair’s latest song is titled You Won’t Stand Alone and the music video features a number of Burnaby City Hall employees in a celebration of the city’s diversity and community in venues such as Deer Lake, Burnaby Lake and city hall.

“We’re lucky to live in one of the most diverse communities in Canada,” said Hurley in a statement. “You Won’t Stand Alone is a celebration of our multicultural community and the way we look out for one another.”

The song features Keithley on lead vocals and guitar, while Hurley handles backup vocals and bass.

D.O.A. drummer Paddy Duddy rounds out the trio.

“In Burnaby, we know that diversity is our strength,” said Keithley, founder of D.O.A. “More than half of our residents were born outside of Canada. But when you come here, we are part of the same human family, the same community. That’s what You Won’t Stand Alone is about.”
