Southwest sizzles in all time record heat
Southern Saskatchewan endured a pair of the hottest days on record during a scorching August heatwave.
The temperature rose above the 40 Celsius mark on both Friday and Saturday, making the region warmer than many locations in the southern United States.
Val Marie rose to an all time record high of 40.9 Celsius on Saturday to edge past the previous mark of 40.6 recorded back in both August 1949 and July 1960. It now stands up as the hottest ever temperature recorded in the community among records dating back to 1939. Hottest ever days were also recorded in Assiniboia (41.1 Celsius on August 11), and Broadview (39.4 Celsius on August 11).
Swift Current suffered through back-to-back record heat on Friday and Saturday. After reaching an all time August record high of 40.0 Celsius on Friday, it got even hotter on Saturday when the mercury climbed to 40.1 Celsius. These were the hottest August days among records which started in 1885.
