Resch tops Herbert Stampede

Southwest competitor­s had their hands full at the 32nd annual Herbert Stampede on August 3-5 at one of the top paying Canadian Cowboys Associatio­n rodeos of the season.

Maple Creek’s Logan Resch led the Southwest with a win in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 15.55 seconds for $365. Resch sat second in the event season standings, trailing only Maple Creek’s Janae Wilson for top spot.

Maple Creek’s Blake Link also won his event when he topped Novice Bareback with a 49-point ride for $385.

Kyle’s Chad Hantelman tied for second in Steer Wrestling in 4.3 seconds for $932. Waldeck’s Tee Mcleod tied for fourth in 4.4 seconds for $630.

Cadillac’s Brooke Lang placed fourth in Ladies Barrel Racing in 15.45 seconds for $1,008. Mankota’s Bailey Briere tied for fifth in 15.48 seconds for $684.

Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram finished fourth in Bareback after a 75-point ride on Lacadena Sunrise for $453.

Mankota’s Shawn Williamson led the Southwest in Tie Down Roping in fourth spot in 9.3 seconds for $718. Waldeck’s Tuftin Mcleod was sixth in 9.6 seconds for $410.

Piapot’s Casey Bertram was the lone Southwest cowboy in the money in Saddle Bronc when he placed fifth with a 74point ride on It Depends for $372.

Maple Creek’s James Perrin finished tied for sixth in Junior Steer Riding with 68 points for $33.

Shamrock’s Kevin Turner was the lone Southwest cowboy in the Team Roping pay window. He worked with Kyle Chappel (Gravelbour­g) to place seventh in 10.6 seconds for $657.

The CCA was also in Consul for the Reno Rodeo the same weekend.

Three Southwest teams collected money in Team Roping, led by a win from Waldeck’s Tee and Scott Mcleod in 5.3 seconds for $2,732. Maple Creek’s Nolan Jans and Shelton Udal were third in 6.6 seconds for $2,019. The Waldeck tandem of Tuftin and Tyce Mcleod tied for seventh in 10.4 seconds for $415.

Val Marie’s Mckenna Legault placed second in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 16.79 seconds for $302. Maple Creek’s Logan

Resch followed in third spot in 16.96 seconds for $239.

Piapot’s Casey Bertram rode Fort Apache for 74 points to place second in Saddle Bronc for $756. Maple Creek’s Mike Gordon tied for third with a 72-point ride on Deadly Moccasins for $519.

Monty Koopman tied for third in his hometown rodeo in Bareback with 76 points on Lori Darling for $326. Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram followed in fifth with 75 points on Pringle Hill for $178.

Three cowgirls placed in the top 10 in Ladies Barrel Racing in Consul. Maple Creek’s Taryn Parsonage was third in 16.56 seconds for $1,071. Mankota’s Bailey Briere and Cadillac’s Brooke Lang finished in a four-way tie for seventh in 16.64 seconds to pocket $110.

Val Marie’s Riley Hayes added a third-place tie in Steer Wrestling in 4.7 seconds for $683.

Abbey’s Blake Smith was also third in Novice Bull Riding with 75 points for $216.

Swift Current’s Keith Folk represente­d the Southwest in the pay window in Tie Down Roping in fourth spot in 11.0 seconds for $516.

Maple Creek’s James Perrin tied for fourth in Junior Steer Riding with 73 points for $136.

All three CCA rodeos this weekend are in Manitoba with stops in Grunthal and Virden.

The next CCA rodeo in the Southwest will be in Val Marie on September 14-15.
