Badgers add depth in the crease

- STANDARD STAFF

The Brock Badgers men’s hockey team have added goaltenders Adam Beukeboom and Alexander Brooks-Potts for the upcoming 2016-17 Ontario University Athletics season.

Beukeboom, a native of Alberta, joins the Badgers after spending last season playing goal for the Portage College Voyageurs of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). Prior to playing college hockey, Beukeboom tended net in Saskatchewan for the Flin Flon Bombers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. He also spent time with the Regina Pats and Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League and Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

Brooks-Potts is joining the Badgers fresh off a championship run with the Stratford Cullitons of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. In 2016 the Cullitons went on to win the Cherrey Cup, the Mid-Western Division’s title, before losing in the Sutherland Cup semifinals. Brooks-Potts was acquired by the Cullitons in a trade with the Aurora Tigers as they prepared for their long playoff run. Before his time in Aurora, the Burlington native played in the British Columbia Hockey League with the Prince George Spruce Kings.

“Creating quality depth in all positional areas was an objective of our staff heading into next year. We feel we’ve achieved that objective with the addition of Adam and Alex,” Brock head coach Murray Nystrom said.

Both goalies will be counted on to push current Badgers starting goaltender Clint Windsor. Windsor is coming off a season in which he saw his save percentage jump to .916 compared to .889 during the 2014-15 campaign.

Brock goalie coach/consultant Luc Lobsinger feels the Badgers now have three goaltenders that can step in and contribute if needed.

“As a staff we really feel strongly about having three guys that can all step in and play. University hockey is unique in that you can’t just go out and sign players mid-season in the event of injuries. Windsor, Beukeboom, and Brooks-Potts give us a trio that helps to fit our needs at that position,” Lobsinger said.

Windsor was left as the lone incumbent in the crease heading into next season after Real Cormier graduated this past season.
