Cheech & Chong to light up Seneca casino

Stoner icons Cheech & Chong are heading back to Niagara.

Eight years after the duo brought their reunion tour to Niagara Fallsview Resort Casino, they head to the other side of the river for a date at Seneca Niagara Casino, Nov. 26.

One of the most successful comedy teams of all time, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong made a series of classic albums in the early ’70s before taking their act to Hollywood with 1978’s Up in Smoke. After some successful sequels, however, their cannabisthemed humour hit a snag in the mid-’80s with Nancy Reagan’s ‘Just Say No’ anti-drug campaign. They parted ways soon after, and despite constant talk of a reunion, didn’t make it official until 2008’s Light Up America and Canada tour.

“We captured a culture in our movies and records,” Chong said in a 2008 interview. “When anybody got homesick, they put on a Cheech and Chong record or watched a Cheech and Chong movie, and all the old memories would come flooding back. That’s really what we’re doing now, giving everyone a chance to relive their childhood.”

The November show takes place at the 2,500-seat Seneca Events Center at 8 p.m. Tickets start at US$45.

Also announced for the Seneca Events Center is comedian Lewis Black, Nov. 11.

Coming to the casino’s 440seat Bear’s Den Showroom will be Billy Ocean on Oct. 29, Rita Coolidge on Nov. 4 and Robert Cray on Nov. 11.

Tickets for all shows are available at www.SenecaCasinos.com, www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at 1-800-745-3000.
