Free bus rides on Saturdays

-

Pelham Transit will offer free bus rides on Saturdays starting March 6. The rides will be covered by a sponsorship program with contributions from businesses, said recreation director Recreation director Vickie van Ravenswaay. The promotion will not to endanger the town’s provincial gas tax allocation or U-Pass arrangement with Niagara College and Brock University. Saturday opens a greater opportunity for additional ridership because youths are not in school, van Ravenswaay said. As more people try the bus service, she said, it will encourage them to use it on other days. In the meantime, as the number of riders increases, so will the gas tax allocation. Pelham Transit is talking to Wainfleet and West Lincoln about extending service to those municipalities. An RSVP is not mandatory, but people interested are asked to contact wonderwomanswarriors@ outlook.com or call 289-990-8303. More information is available at wonderwomanswarriors.com. An additional session is being held for anyone else interested in an introduction to the sport. People interested in that session are asked to contact rdalton@ southniagaracanoeclub.com, with more information available at southniagaracanoeclub.com. Both sessions take place at Welland International Flatwater Centre on March 1 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The centre is off Ontario Road.
