Jail term for man passed out opposite police station

Passing out behind the wheel across the street from a police station proved costly for a St. Catharines man. Kevin Marlor pleaded guilty Tuesday in Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines to a charge of possession of cocaine for the purpose of traffickin­g. The 37-year-old was sentenced to a 90-day intermitte­nt sentence. On May 22, 2016, court was told, a police officer walking to work at about 6 a.m. spotted a truck in the parking lot of a funeral home located across the street from the St. Catharines police station. The engine was running and Marlor was slumped over the steering wheel. Court heard the officer had to knock repeatedly on the car window in order to wake the driver. Marlor was arrested and taken to the police station where officers found 14 small bags of cocaine and 21 ecstasy capsules in his pockets. He was also carrying more than $2,000 in cash. “This is serious behaviour,” said Judge Fergus O’Donnell. “… and it was not the best place to pass out in your car, obviously.” The judge encouraged the defendant to seek profession­al treatment to address substance abuse issues once he’s served his sentence. With ongoing treatment and support from family, O’Donnell said “the likelihood of you tripping diminishes month after month after month.” defendant and several of his friends. Prior to leaving the area, the defendant punched the victim several times in the face. The attack was captured by surveillan­ce cameras and a copy of the video was played in court. The assault was so severe that it left the victim with a number of facial injuries as well as shoe prints on his face. The teen will return to court May 4 for sentencing. Falls and St. Catharines and seized $150,000 in cash along with cocaine, marijuana and cannabis resin. Police charged Gary Knight, 62, and Brenda Knight, 58, both of St. Catharines with two counts each of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of traffickin­g. Kyle Knight, 26, of Niagara Falls faces four counts of traffickin­g, two counts of proceeds of crime over $5,000 and possession of a prohibited weapon. Jody Roberts, 38, of Niagara Falls faces three counts of traffickin­g and one count of proceeds of crime over $5,000.
