Police probing violent Falls break-in
Niagara Regional Police are investigating a violent break-in that took place in Niagara Falls early Saturday morning.
Police said at 5 a.m., they responded to a residence in the area of Forsythe Street and Slater Avenue for a report of a violent residential break-in and robbery.
Police said officers arrived on scene to find that a violent struggle had taken place between the lone victim and occupant of the residence and the four-to-six suspects that had forced their way in.
Detectives from the 2 District Niagara Falls criminal investigations branch and the NRP forensic services unit were called to the scene.
Police said the investigation revealed the struggle within the residence had involved weapons.
Police said the investigation further revealed the residence had been targeted.
Police said while they were on scene, the victim, a 24-year-old man from Niagara Falls, became assaultive with officers. He was arrested. Police said they’re not identifying the victim for his protection. He will face charges of assaulting police and two counts of aggravated assault.
Police said further charges are pending.
The suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival.
A short time later, police said two males attended a local hospital suffering serious but stable injuries.
Officers attended the hospital to further investigate the matter.
The males receiving treatment for their injuries were found to be suspects in the break-and-enter.
Derek Horth, 25, from Niagara Falls, and Cody Taylor, 28, from Hamilton, were arrested and charged with robbery. The investigation continues.
