The Blue Jays gave away 20,000 Josh Donaldson bobbleheads on Sunday afternoon and the man himself gave away a free ball by hitting the game-winning home run into the stands in right.

“It was nice. I don’t know if I’ve even gotten a hit on one of my bobblehead days before,” said Donaldson, whose eighth-inner homer lifted the Jays to a 3-2 victory over the New York Yankees.

It was Donaldson’s third bobblehead day, and second as a Jay.

“And I’ve been terrible for two of them,” he said.

Not true. In his bobblehead day last year, Donaldson rapped a double, walked and scored twice. And in his bobblehead day while with the Oakland A’s in 2014, Donaldson hit a double and walked. But more than the homer, Donaldson was pleased about the come-from-behind win over the first-place Yankees.

“A complete team win,” he said. “When you beat teams like that you have to come and play hard and do all sides of the baseball very well.”

The victory tied the four-game series 2-2. Starters Marcus Stroman for the Jays and Luis Severino

It came down to the bullpens, and the Yankees blinked first. With the score tied 2-2 and none out in the eighth, Donaldson, on a full-count pitch, hammered a Tyler Clippard offering over the wall. His sixth of the season.

After throwing 105 pitches, Stroman was replaced in the sixth by left-handed reliever Aaron Loup.

Travis was hit in his left hand by Severino in the seventh and left the game after the inning was over. X-rays afterward revealed that his hand was not broken.

Jays closer Roberto Osuna came in the ninth inning and struck out the side to record his 13th save.
