Facer Fest recruiting event volunteers

With just two weeks to go, Facer Fest organizers are looking for a little help from their friends.

Organizers of the second annual Facer European Festival to be held on the civic holiday Monday, Aug. 7, said they are still looking for some more volunteers to help out at the event that revives the rich heritage of the area.

“We are looking for as many as possible. That way we can cut down the length of time they will be required,” said Derek Kedzierski, festival treasurer.

“They will be patrolling the street, answering any questions attendees may have, and watching for contraband.”

Last year, organizers said they surpassed their expected numbers with well more than 3,000 visitors. This year they plan to make the festival bigger and better.

The Facer European Festival is also a fundraiser to beautify Facer Street and this year is dedicated to the memory of Joe Kedzierski, a longtime business owner and Facer District booster who was instrumental in the original idea.

There will be four stages along the street with dancing and performances that will include Niagara’s own Walter Ostanek.

New this year will be pizzaand perogy-eating contests.

Admission to the festival is free, although there will be drop-off points for donations to Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold.

Kedzierski said there are still a few vendor opportunities available. People can contact him at 905-380-4075 or email vendor@ facereuropeanfestival.com.
