Falls man arrested after foot pursuit
A Niagara Falls man has been arrested after a foot pursuit involving police.
Police said detectives observed a wanted man driving a stolen car in Niagara Falls Tuesday.
The man had arrest warrants for failing to appear for court (two counts), failing to comply with a probation order, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
More recently, the man was wanted by police for an incident that occurred July 20, when it’s al- leged that while driving a stolen car he smashed into a marked Niagara Regional Police cruiser, and then led officers on a pursuit.
As a result of that incident, the man was wanted for possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop at accident scene, driving while disqualified and failing to comply with a recognizance order.
On Tuesday, police said detectives conducted surveillance of the man, trying to determine a location to conduct an arrest, while negating the risk to the public of another pursuit.
At about 1:40 p.m., the man attended a local fast-food restaurant in the area of Stanley Avenue and Kitchener Street, said police.
Police said detectives took the opportunity to block in the stolen car.
Police said the wanted man then fled on foot.
A uniform patrol officer in the area engaged in a foot pursuit and was able to arrest the wanted man in the area of Kitchener Street and Temperance Avenue.
Police said there was no damage to the involved NRP vehicles, or the stolen car.
Ken Hunter, 24, is charged with the following additional offences stemming from his Tuesday arrest: driving while disqualified, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of diacetylmorphine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of break and enter tools; possession of a prohibited weapon, and failing to comply with a recognizance order.
