Fall cleanup day on Saturday

-

After a busy summer, there’s nothing like a good fall cleaning to get ready for the cooler months ahead.

The St. Catharines Clean City advisory committee is seeking volunteers to assist in the annual fall clean up day on Saturday. Each year the committee leads volunteers as they pick up litter from city parks and public spaces from 9 a.m. to noon.

“Fall is a fantastic time to enjoy the outdoors and we want to make sure the beautiful colours of the season are front and centre for our park visitors,” said the committee’s Patrick Conway. “The fall cleanup is a great way for residents to help make our community a better place.” Areas the committee is focusing on include:

Benfield Drive, behind the WalMart plaza on Fourth Avenue. Meet at the parking lot near the park. Children under 12 are not permitted to help at this location; Former Fairview Golf Course, 285 Geneva St. Meet at the Pet Smart parking lot; Roehampton Park/CNR spur line, 55 Roehampton Ave. Meet at the parking lot;

Clifford Greek Park, 24 Phelps St. Meet at Moffatt Street. Volunteers can also clean up their own neighbourhoods or favourite parks. Call 905-688-5601 ext. 1630 to register so arrangements can be made for trash collected to be picked up. the area more pedestrian friendly. Other improvements include new street lighting, traffic signals, fresh asphalt, new concrete curbs and gutters, and other streetscape elements such as concrete planters.

While most of the work is done and the road will remain open, the city does advise some temporary lane closures may be needed over the next month for finishing touches, such as installing flashers at the pedestrian crossover.
