MTV hits the road

MTV Unplugged

Originally a rebellious response to the heavily produced music of the late ’80s and early ’90s, MTV Unplugged triggered a surge in the acoustic music scene. In a new twist, the remixed Grammy and Emmy- award-winning series now features stripped-down renditions from locations across the U.S. that hold sentimental value to each artist, giving fans a new perspective on their favourite hits. Shawn Mendes, as well as Bleachers featuring Iggy Azalea and Lorde, are scheduled for this season. (MTV)

The School of Rock

With kids freshly back in school, the timing is perfect for this 2003 film. After being kicked out of his rock band, Dewey Finn (Jack Black) poses as a substitute music teacher at a strict elementary private school. But his exuberance and unconventional methods grate against the kids’ parents. Joan Cusack, Mike White and Sarah Silverman also star. (YTV)

School of Rock

Based on the 2003 film, this series kicks off its third season with back-to-back episodes. In Hold on Loosely, Freddy (Ricardo Hurtado) tells the band his family is moving to Canada. They all work together to come up with a plan to convince his mother to let him stay. Then in Do You Want to Know a Secret, the band gets a new classmate who is unable to keep a secret, which threatens the future of the band. (YTV)

Ginormous Food

Back-to-back new episodes air. Crunchy Cheesy Charleston is the first, featuring Kitchen 208 and its 16-inch-high chicken and waffle sandwich, as well as Mex 1 Coastal Cantina and its Big Papa Nachos. Then, in Jacksonville’s Jumbo Eats, it’s Black Sheep’s five-foot long baguette stuffed with ground duck breast and veggies. (Food)

Marketplace

It’s a rebroadcast of the episode Superweed. Volunteers are hooked up to EEG machines in a pot-smoking experiment to determine what really happens to your brain when you get high. Plus, the show tests the most popular strains bought from Canadian dispensaries. (CBC)

Blue Bloods

In a repeat from April, titled Foreign Interference, Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Baez (Marisa Ramirez) work with two Russian operatives to search for a dangerous Russian who entered the U.S. on a diplomatic visa. Frank (Tom Selleck) gets involved in a sensitive case involving Archbishop Kevin Kearns. (CBS)

My Cat From Hell

In the new episode Feral Shop Cat, cat behaviourist Jackson Galaxy helps a couple whose three cats fight so much they moved into a bigger house just to give them extra space apart. Then the Cat Daddy works with a feral shop cat named Greenie whose spraying threatens business. (Animal Planet)

Mexico Life

Season 1 of this house-buying series continues. High school sweethearts — who also happen to be foodies — seek inspiration and sanctuary in the sleepy surf town of Sayulita, Mexico. (HGTV)
