Brock U. student dies studying in Germany

-

A 21-year-old Welland man is being remembered as someone who could light up a room with just one smile.

Troy Christopher Larouche, son of Larry and Brenda Larouche and brother of Ryan and Paul, died suddenly while studying abroad in Germany, on Saturday, Sept. 9.

There are unconfirmed reports that he died as a result of a collision.

“Troy’s ability to light up a room with just one smile will forever be cherished. At such a young age, Troy was looked up to by many; and never turned down an adventure,” said the obituary on the J.J. Patterson and Sons Funeral Home website.

Larouche was a third-year student completing a dual degree program with both the Goodman School of Business and the European Business School through Brock University, and was on the dean’s honour roll yearly.

“Troy’s sense of adventure brought him all over Europe, visiting places such as England, Hungary, France, Italy, Czech Republic and Switzerland, to name a few. He had a vast array of interests and loved to take on new challenges. Some of these interests included fitness, learning the ukelele, skydiving, football, trading stocks, cooking and building computers/websites.”

According to The Brock Press, he had recently finished a co-op work term with Dezignated, a German ecommerce company.

He was scheduled to begin his final term of studies this week at EBS.

Goodman School associate dean Dianne Miller, and Meredith Heaney, Goodman’s manager of international exchanges and partnerships, were to travel to Germany to assist 14 other Goodman students studying at EBS, to be with them as they work through this difficult time, the university reported.

Family and friends will gather at J.J. Patterson and Sons, 19 Young St., Welland Wednesday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 pm. A memorial mass will be celebrated at the Parish Community of St. Kevin on Thursday at 10 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Goodman School of Business, Brock University.

As a memorial tribute, a tree will be planted for Larouche through The Niagara Woodlands Restoration Program.
