Avondale robbery suspect identified

Niagara Regional Police have identified a suspect wanted after an armed robbery at a St. Catharines convenienc­e store.

The robbery occurred at about 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 17, at the Avondale store at 644 Niagara St. A lone clerk working at the store at the time was not injured, and the suspect fled on foot last seen on Old Oxford Road.

Police said Kevin Loney, 34, of St. Catharines is wanted for one count of robbery. Police say one of the men was determined to be the victim of the robbery, while the other is alleged to have committed the offence. Both men were treated for their injuries at Greater Niagara General Hospital.

Aaron Popko, 43, of Niagara Falls, was arrested and charged with break enter and commit assault with a weapon, robbery and use an imitation firearm in the commission of an indictable offence.

Police believe that the parties involved in the incident knew each other, and it was not a random incident. puzzles and special collection­s.
