Generals sweep triplehead­er at home

Quinn Johnston returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and the Niagara Generals never looked back after that on their way to a 33-15 victory over the Scarboroug­h Thunder in Ontario Football League’s peewee division.

Ryan Broome, with three field goals; Jack Wilson, on the receiving end of a scoring strike from Nick Longo on a running back option pass; Lucas Hazelton and Mikhail Sidun, one touchdown each; also put points on the scoreboard as the Generals won their third in a row and improved to 4-2.

Niagara’s defence twice stripped the ball away from Scarboroug­h backs in Saturday’s game at Kiwanis Field in St. Catharines.

Scarboroug­h fell to 3-3 in league play.

Next action for the Generals is next Monday for a special Thanksgivi­ng Day game on the road against the Burlington Stampeders. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

Generals 31, Gryphons 6

At St. Catharines, Braiden Genst rushed for three touchdowns and added a one-point conversion to help Niagara defeat Guelph in atom football on the turf Saturday at Kiwanis Field.

J.J. DiMichelle, on a one-yard plunge into the end zone; Evan McCue, touchdown reception; also scored for the Generals who improved their record to 2-4 with the victory over the Gryphons, 4-1.

A sweep of an Ontario Football League triplehead­er Saturday in St. Catharines started with Niagara defeating Cambridge in tyke action.

The Generals evened their record at 3-3 thanks to touchdowns from Dahari Williams, with two; Hunter Gray and Benji Kolodziejc­zak, as well as two, one-point converts from David VanSoelen.

Hunter Baxter and Dyami Maphar were standouts on defence for Niagara.

The Generals visit the Vaughan Rebels, 2-3, Saturday. Game time is 10 a.m.
