A 20-year-old woman is dead, while a 22-year-old man is facing an impaired driving causing death charge following a fatal collision in Niagara Falls Sunday.

Niagara Regional Police said emergency personnel responded at about 2:15 a.m. to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Biggar Road, west of Montrose Road.

Police said a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier was being driven west on Biggar Road by 22-year-old Jake Pirson, of Welland, with three passengers.

Police said Pirson lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway, and struck a number of smaller trees before the vehicle came to final rest on its roof in the ditch on the north side of Biggar Road.

Police said a 20-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the deceased female is not being released at this time out of respect for the family, said police.

Police said Pirson and two other passengers suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

Pirson, who was charged with impaired driving causing death, is scheduled to appear in bail court Monday morning.

The collision remains under investigation by police and the coroner’s office.

Police ask anyone with information to call them at 905-688-4111 ext. 5500.
