Karen Fraser, a longtime member who has been involved behind the scenes in past elections, has been chosen to represent the Green party for the Niagara Falls riding.

The party announced Wednesday that Fraser, 65, will run in the June provincial election.

Fraser has been a member of both the federal and provincial wings of the Green party since 2005, serving as campaign manager to former Green candidates Kay Green, Shawn Willick, Steven Soos and Melanie Mullen. Fraser also ran provincially for the Green party in Milton in 2010 and St. Catharines in 2014.

Fraser has held posts with organizations such as the Unemployment Insurance Commission (now Ontario Works), H&R Block and was chair of the Niagara Falls Arts and Culture Committee for 10 of her 18 years as a member. She says she has spearheaded many events promoting local talent which includes leading the committee to establish the Niagara Falls Arts and Culture Wall of Fame.

In a media release, Fraser says if she is elected she will focus on affordable, fair and accessible housing; environmental protection and sustainable development, access to health care, and the creation of full-time jobs.

The riding includes also Niagara-on-the-Lake and Fort Erie.
