Police are appealing to the public for assistance and any video they may have following an attack in Niagara Falls Monday that saw a woman stabbed, while they continue to search for a suspect.

Niagara Regional Police said Tuesday they recovered a vehicle they were searching for in relation to the incident on Monday evening in Grimsby.

Police said officers were called to the area of Lyons Creek and Sodom roads at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, where a woman was attacked with a knife and left with serious injuries.

She was airlifted to an out-of-town hospital for treatment.

Police said the woman remains in hospital in critical condition.

Police said this is not believed to have been a random attack, and that the victim and suspect are known to each other. An investigation led to the identification of a suspect — Joseph Caligiuri 27, of Niagara Falls, described as being 5-foot-9 with a thin build and dark hair.

Caligiuri is wanted by police on an attempted murder charge. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Police ask any member of the public who sees him or the suspect vehicle to call 911 immediately and ask that anyone in communication with Caligiuri should encourage him to contact a lawyer to arrange a peaceful and safe surrender to police.

Detectives are asking any members of the public who may possess video or dash camera footage of the area during the time of the incident to contact them at 905-688-4111 ext. 2200.
