Jack White, Decemberists heading to Artpark
Midway through January, Artpark wants you thinking of spring.
The Lewiston, N.Y., arts venue dropped two big concert announcements this week for its Mainstage Theater: The Decemberists on May 26, and Jack White on June 8.
It marks a return appearance for Portland’s Decembrists, who played a memorable Artpark show in August 2011 while touring for their sixth album, The King is Dead.
The band returns with a tweaked new sound on I’ll Be Your Girl, being released March 16, working with St. Vincent and Lana del Ray producer John Congleton. A 35-date tour follows starting March 22 in Pomona, Calif.
The band also plays the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto May 30.
Meanwhile, Detroit guitar great White will be making his first appearance at Artpark. The White Stripes co-founder releases his new album, Boarding House Reach, on March 23. He kicks off a tour April 19 at Little Caesars Arena in his hometown. Following the Artpark show he plays The Budweiser Stage (formerly Molson Amphitheatre) in Toronto June 9.
A 12-time Grammy winner, White was one of rock’s key figures of the 2000s with The White Stripes, the raucous blues/rock duo he formed with drummer Meg White. His other bands include The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.
He was also featured in the 2008 documentary It Might Get Loud alongside guitar legends Jimmy Page and The Edge.
