Niagara has been named the most romantic restaurant region in Canada.

OpenTable, the world’s leading provider of online restaurant reservations, has released its 2018 rankings of the 10 most romantic cities in Canada.

While Canada is known for a diverse food culture, OpenTable’s analysis reveals Canadians are also a nation of hungry romantics.

To provide a ranking of cities where romantic dining is inherently part of the culture, the index was calculated using three variables: the percentage of restaurants rated “romantic” according to OpenTable diner reviews, the percentage of tables seated for two, and the percentage of people who dined out for Valentine’s Day in 2017.

“This list makes it clear that romance is alive and well in all corners of the country, from the picturesque vineyards in the Niagara region to the natural wonders of the Canadian Rockies in Banff,” said Caroline Potter, chief dining officer for OpenTable.

“Ahead of Valentine’s Day, we’re thrilled to highlight the cities in which romantic dining experiences are an important part of the culture.”

Niagara leads the way, with 13 of Canada’s most 100 romantic restaurants, based on the combined opinions of more than 500,000 restaurant reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners for more than 2,000 restaurants in the country between Dec. 1, 2016, and Nov. 30, 2017.

All restaurants with a minimum “overall” score and number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration.

Qualifying restaurants were then scored and sorted according to the percentage of reviews for which “romantic” was selected as a special feature.

The 100 most romantic list features restaurants from 46 cities across nine provinces.

Ontario is the province with the most restaurants with 40 establishments, followed by Alberta with 20, British Columbia with 14 and Quebec with 13.

“From coast to coast, Canada has endless romantic dining options,” said Potter.

“This year’s list is the idea guide for those looking to spark connection on Valentine’s Day and beyond, featuring an array of restaurants that offer memorable experiences, from casual to fine dining.”
