Falls fireworks turn 25 in May with a bang

- NIAGARA FALLS REVIEW

How do you celebrate a fireworks show that’s turning 25 years old? More fireworks.

To mark a quarter-century of lighting up the gorge, Niagara Parks will expand its annual summer schedule to 111 shows, including daily displays throughout summer.

The first batches will go off during the Victoria Day (May 18 to 21) and Memorial Day (May 25 to 28) long weekends. Shows follow on weekends only until June 17, and from June 18 to Sept. 3 they’ll be nightly.

From Sept. 7 to Oct. 8, the shows return to a weekend schedule and holiday Mondays.

All shows start at 10 p.m., subject to weather conditions.

The extra shows are made possible by additional support from the Tourism Partnership of Niagara.

Niagara Parks Commission chairwoman Janice Thomson said the shows help prolong visits to the falls and encourage overnight stays.

“Niagara Parks’ vision is to become one of the most spectacular parks in the world,” she says. “One step to help achieve this new vision is our continued efforts to activate and leverage the natural experiences of Niagara with programming such as the Falls’ Fireworks series.”

Tourism Partnership of Niagara president Anthony Annunziata said nightly fireworks during summer help “animate and enhance the customer experience” for visitors.

“Programming like this helps to shape the Niagara narrative in attracting business and leisure customers to our great region.”
