Niagara Falls comedian David Green hasn’t gone Hollywood yet, but he’s trying.

In-between doing stand-up, his day job, making wedding plans and attending every Ice Dogs game possible, he likes to gather friends and shoot some funny flicks. Last year, it was the “thrillarious” horror comedy “Gorge,” filmed discreetly in the Niagara Gorge to escape the attention of the Niagara Parks Commission.

This year, he didn’t have to be so clandestine. The hammy murder mystery “Olde Towne” was filmed in various Niagara-onthe-Lake and Niagara Falls locations last fall and winter with the owners’ blessings, including Small Talk Vineyards, Bull Market and Cheese Secrets.

“It felt more like we were doing a movie…last time we were just running around in the woods,” he says. “We put a lot more effort into the script and storyboarding.”

Green gathered the same crew for his follow-up movie, including cast members Jeffrey Stroop,

Levi Mann, Rihan Rahsi and Devin Caron.

Niagara Falls musician Rod Standish, who did the score for “Gorge,” has also been added to the cast. In fact, it was a piece of Standish’s music Green didn’t use last time which inspired “Olde Towne.”

“It had a detective-y, murder mystery type of vibe to it.”

The story is fairly basic – a corpse shows up in Olde Towne, and two sleuths from Cheese Secrets Detective Agency are on the case. It’s mainly an excuse for Green and his pals to trade jokes.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a spoof or parody, it’s more like a tongue-incheek, cheesy mystery.”

The finished 23-minute product is much more polished than “Gorge,” he says, with better effects, audio and camera work. He hopes it’s a sturdier foot in the door to eventually doing features films.

“We’ve got a producer who talked to us who’s interested in working on a full-length feature for our next project. Which is kind of exciting.”

As he did for “Gorge,” Green will premiere “Olde Towne” with a special screening at the Seneca Queen Theatre in Niagara Falls April 14. The night will include live music and comedy, with proceeds going to the Niagara Falls Humane Society. Big Texas Niagara and Lakeview Vineyards Equipment footed the bill for the theatre for the night.
