Young jazz stars to make Canadian debut in Niagara

-

Bravo Niagara’s fifth annual Spring into Music series will include the Canadian debut of two young jazz stars.

Eleven-year-old piano prodigy Brandon Goldberg will take the stage at Stratus Vineyards this Saturday. The Florida musician was recently featured on Steve Harvey’s “Little Big Shots” and “The Harry Connick Jr. Show,” and has performed at Carnegie Hall, The Apollo and the Blue Note in New York.

The show will also feature bassist and Order of Canada recipient Dave Young, drummer Jim Doxas and vocalist Paul Marinaro. Celine Peterson, daughter of Canadian jazz great Oscar Peterson, will host a Q&A.

On May 26, New York jazz crooner Veronica Swift will also play Canada for the first time.

At 23, she is already a 10-time performer at the Telluride Jazz Festival, is a regular at the Birdland Jazz Club, and recorded two CDS before she was 14.

The spring series continues Friday with cellist Julian Schwarz and pianist Marika Bournaki.

The show will be preceded by the award-winning Canadian documentary “I Am Not a Rock Star.”

The series concludes May 27 with violinist Nikki Chooi and pianist Tony Yike Yang.

All shows take place at Stratus Vineyards’ Press Alley. For tickets visit www.bravoniagara.org.
