Fix dangerous intersection before a tragedy occurs: Reader

RE: REGION TACKLES TREACHEROUS INTERSECTION, APRIL 24, STORY BY BILL SAWCHUK

As a resident on Four Mile Creek Road, I want to thank everyone that is attempting to stop these horrific crashes at Line 3 and Creek Road.

Obviously more needs to be done. Church Road in Niagara has four or five rumble strips before coming to the stop sign. It got my attention immediately. The cost of these strips is minimal compared to thoughts of alternate ways, such as a roundabout or four-way stops.

In the article by reporter Bill Sawchuk, Ron Tripp, the Region’s commissioner of public works, explains that the majority of the accidents are occurring from drivers that stop on Line Three and then proceed onto Four Mile Creek Road.

I find this a little difficult to believe as any accidents I have been aware of were from someone going through the stop sign. I believe the police reports might have information relating to this.

The article also stated that there were 14 collisions at this intersection in the last five years, when actually there were 28 and that includes 13 last year, plus how many this year? Three that I know of.

It appears that the town of Niagara-onthe-Lake is responsible for Line 3 so why do we not just go ahead and take care of this?

Other municipalities have large flashing stop signs where a number of accidents have occurred or rumble strips.

Don’t wait for a death to make the decision.
