PHPA wraps up 50th an­niver­sary

How’s this for smooth skat­ing: a cus­tom-built Har­ley-David­son mo­tor­cy­cle val­ued at more than $100,000.

That’s top prize in a draw when the Pro­fes­sional Hockey Play­ers As­so­ci­a­tion wraps up its 50th an­niver­sary with a golf tour­na­ment Satur­day, Aug. 21.

“There is noth­ing this bike doesn’t have, right down to the hy­draulic lifter kit, stereo sys­tem, cus­tom wheels, cus­tom paint and elec­tric kick­stand,” Quinn Camp from Quinn’s Cus­tom Mo­tor­cy­cles said.

Dar­ryl Dionne, di­rec­tor of com­mu­ni­ca­tions and busi­ness de­vel­op­ment for the as­so­ci­a­tion, said pro­ceeds from fundrais­ing event at St. Catharines Golf and Coun­try Club ben­e­fit five char­i­ties, in­clud­ing Ni­a­gara-based Heartland For­est.

A cur­rent and for­mer pro­fes­sional hockey player will be in each four­some. As well, sev­eral mem­bers of the hockey me­dia, in­clud­ing Fan 590’s Bob McCown, will be hand.

Also high­light­ing the hock­eythemed tour­na­ment will be a dis­play of Na­tional Hockey League tro­phies, and live and silent auc­tions of mem­o­ra­bilia. Hockey Fights Can­cer, the Hockey Canada Foun­da­tion, the Staal Fam­ily Foun­da­tion and the USA Hockey Foun­da­tion are the other char­i­ties ben­e­fit­ing from the day­long fundraiser.

En­try fee is $1,100 per four­some or $275 for an an in­di­vid­ual, which in­cludes 18 holes of golf, lunch and din­ner. Start is 12:30 p.m.
