PHPA wraps up 50th anniversary

How’s this for smooth skating: a custom-built Harley-Davidson motorcycle valued at more than $100,000.

That’s top prize in a draw when the Professional Hockey Players Association wraps up its 50th anniversary with a golf tournament Saturday, Aug. 21.

“There is nothing this bike doesn’t have, right down to the hydraulic lifter kit, stereo system, custom wheels, custom paint and electric kickstand,” Quinn Camp from Quinn’s Custom Motorcycles said.

Darryl Dionne, director of communications and business development for the association, said proceeds from fundraising event at St. Catharines Golf and Country Club benefit five charities, including Niagara-based Heartland Forest.

A current and former professional hockey player will be in each foursome. As well, several members of the hockey media, including Fan 590’s Bob McCown, will be hand.

Also highlighting the hockeythemed tournament will be a display of National Hockey League trophies, and live and silent auctions of memorabilia. Hockey Fights Cancer, the Hockey Canada Foundation, the Staal Family Foundation and the USA Hockey Foundation are the other charities benefiting from the daylong fundraiser.

Entry fee is $1,100 per foursome or $275 for an an individual, which includes 18 holes of golf, lunch and dinner. Start is 12:30 p.m.
