Minor football season kicks off in Niagara
Steven Phillips scored three touchdowns, kicked a convert and Kaiden Craft also found the end zone three times, and the
Fort Erie Longhorns defeated the St. Catharines Seawhawks 56-44 in the Niagara Regional Minor Football Association’s bantam division.
Kody Macrae, with a touchdown and three, two-point conversions; and Jackson Louis, touchdown; rounded out the scoring for Fort Erie.
Quin Johnson, three touchdowns, two, two-point conversions; Deidre Forde, two touchdowns, two-point conversion; Kian Finn, touchdown; and Jack Wilson, two-point conversion; scored for the Seahawks.
In Week 1’s other peewee game, Brett Mauves, three touchdowns; Dashawn Johnson, two touchdowns; Nick Longo, two, twopoint conversions; and Colton Kizlyk, conversion; put points on the scoreboard in the Welland Tiger-Cats’ 36-12 victory over the Niagara Falls Argonauts.
Arden Martinez scored both Niagara Falls touchdowns.
Peewee Division
Brandon Krutz returned an interception for a touchdown, and the Welland Tiger-Cats defeated the Niagara Falls Argonauts 36-6.
Matthew Gichard, Everette Hemauer, Nick Jokic and Marcus Tsanoff also had touchdowns for Welland. Sean Perry added three, two-point conversions for the Ticats.
Keegan Herries, who forced a fumble, and Noah Mellen, stripped ball; Arik Rae, Ben Tsanoff, each with an interception; were among the standouts on the Welland defence.
Julian Mangiacasole accounted for the Niagara Falls scoring.
The Fort Erie Longhorns grounded the St. Catharines Seahawks 20-13, thanks to two touchdowns from Grant Spada and a touchdown and a convert from Colin Larch.
Liam McAvoy and Wyatt Brown, with a touchdown each; and Cameron Newbold, convert; scored for St. Catharines.
Atom Division
Calem Smith scored three touchdowns, Jordan Payne two and Cameron Macrae one to help the Fort Erie Longhorns edge the St. Catharines Seahawks 39-37.
Smith and Payne added twoand one-point converts, respectively.
Scoring for St. Catharines were Shari Williams, three touchdowns, convert; Josh Savoie, two touchdowns; and Alex Caizza, three, two-point converts.
Lucas Panucci scored two touchdowns, added a two-point convert and Marco Angelini also had a touchdown as the Niagara Lions blanked the West Niagara Steelers 20-0.
