Farmers market taking root in downtown Thorold
Start each weekend with a relaxing walk, fresh food and unique locally made crafts.
Due to popular demand for fresh, local foods the City of Thorold is starting its own Downtown Thorold Market. The grand opening of the weekly market, at 6 Ormond St. S., is Saturday. A grand opening ribbon ceremony will take place at 10 a.m.
The market will take place every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon to the end of September.
The market will feature in-season, locally grown farm produce, as well as fresh artisan breads including gluten-free and keto options, handmade artisan pies, jams, honey and much more. The market will also be a great place to get out and enjoy a walk with the family while also being introduced to local farmers.
Carrie Cottage, operator of the market, started the idea of the Downtown Thorold Market because of her love for baking breads and growing plants, but also because of her desire to spark peoples’ interests in farming and producing fresh, healthy food.
“We are so excited to be able to bring this venue to the Thorold community and people in the surrounding areas. As most of us know, Thorold’s downtown core has come a long way in a short time, thanks to local investors, new thinkers and local business people. It is so good to see new interest, growth and positive change,” said Cottage.
The Downtown Thorold Market promises to produce a positive cultural and economic impact for the local downtown core. The city’s downtown heritage area has experienced a recent revitalization, and the organizers of the market hop it will become a key piece in the vibrancy of the community.
“The Downtown Thorold Market is a definite draw to this area and will prosper with the community’s support as we all grow together,” said Cottage.
