Brock wrestlers golden at Canada Cup
Jessie MacDonald sweeps women’s 50-kg class with three wins
Brock Wrestling Club members Jessie MacDonald and Jessica Brouillette each captured a gold medal at the Canada Cup Saturday in Guelph.
MacDonald, 30, defeated Russians Nadezhda Sokolova and Anzhelika Vetoshkina and China’s Jiang Zhu China en route to her 50-kilogram victory.
MacDonald is a three-time world championship medallist and two-time Commonwealth Games medallist.
“I think I wrestled well, I think
I wrestled composed,” she said. “I was patient and didn’t try to force anything. I was pretty excited when I saw my draw, because I was hoping for the opportunity to wrestle them all.
“It’s definitely a privilege to get to wrestle them in Canada.”
Brouillette worked her way through Chinese opponents Hongli Yan and Ying Zhang before finishing with a pin versus Uliana Tukurenova of Russia.
“It was nice to be able to wrestle different people close to home,” she said.

Richard DesChatelets of Brock Wrestling Club swept the threeman 97-kg round robin.
Diana Weicker (53 kg), Hannah Taylor (57 kg) and Skylar Grote (65 kg), also of Brock, finished second in their respective weight classes.
Javon Balfour secured second in the men’s 74 kg.
