Third rainout of the racing season at Humberstone
Lightning had always been in the forecast for Sunday’s racing program at New Humberstone Speedway but never rain.
After two rainouts already this season, the last thing the Port Colborne dirt track wanted was wet weather washing out the annual visit by the BEI Lightning Series.
But rain it did. Enough fell overnight and into the morning to render the pit area impassable to race teams and their heavy haulers.
“With the rain last night and this morning, it caused the pit area to be oversaturated,” lamented Dave Bitner Jr., the track’s president.
Bellinger Electric Inc. (BEI) and the Humberstone have set Sunday, Aug. 12, as the makeup date, weather permitting of course.
CAA Members Night also was postponed as a result of second rainout at a Niagara stock car track in as many. A makeup date will be announced shortly.
On July 14 inclement weather forced postponement of Merrittville Speedway’s Wall of Fame induction. Enshrinement of Barry Davidson and Steve DeVos will now take place Saturday, Aug. 4.
On tap next Sunday at the Humberstone is Motorcycle
Night sponsored by Clare’s Cycle.
Motorcyclists showing their M licence will get discounted admission for a five-division race card — Sportsman, Late Models, Thunder Stocks, Mini Stocks, Pro 4 Trucks — as well as vintage cars and a bike show.
Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with racing getting underway two hours later.
