Woods all in for first two playoff tourneys

- STEVE DIMEGLIO

Tiger Woods is going to be busy.

In the latest sign of his continued good health following spinal fusion surgery last year, Woods will play four of the next five weeks.

The PGA Tour confirmed reports that Woods committed Tuesday to the Northern Trust in Paramus, N.J., the first of the four post-season golf tournaments, and the following week’s Dell Technologies Championship near Boston.

Woods is playing this week’s World Golf ChampionshipsBridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, which he has won a record eight times, and next week’s PGA Championship at Bellerive Golf Club west of St. Louis, the last major of the season.

He will skip the Wyndham Championship, which is held in between the PGA Championship and the playoffs.

Woods hasn’t played the first two events of the post-season since 2013, when he won five times and was the PGA Tour’s player of the year. He is the only player to win the FedExCup more than once, winning the inaugural playing in ’07 and then in ’09.

He is 47th in the FedExCup standings.

Woods’ last tournament victory came in the 2013 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. His last start came in the British Open two weeks ago at Carnoustie in Scotland, where his tie for sixth qualified him for the Bridgestone Invitational.

After barely playing for two years, Woods started 2018 ranked No. 656 in the world and is now 50th. He has four top-six results in 12 starts, including a runner-up showing in the Valspar Championship.
