Generals pass muster after winless weekend
Niagara teams go 2-1-1 in Ontario Football League
Niagara almost came full circle when play resumed in the Ontario Football League.
After combining to go 0-4 and putting up only 14 points the week before, Niagara Generals teams passed muster with a 2-1-1 record this time out — and all on the road at that.
Jackson Stewart rushed for a touchdown and threw touchdown passes to Lucas Hazelton, Quinn Johnston, Kody MacRae and Jack Wilson as the Tier 1 bantams topped the Brampton Bulldogs 40-21.
Johnston also returned a kickoff for a touchdown and Ryan Broome had four converts.
Hazelton was a standout on both sides of the ball intercepting a pass.
Austin Macrae, with two touchdowns and a one-point convert; and Braden Genest, one touchdown; accounted for the scoring as the peewee Generals edged the Cambridge Lions 1918.
Josh Phillipe’s second interception of the game clinched the victory.
“I could not be more proud of the our boys who are finally coming together from O line to safety,” head coach Bruce Macrae said.
Generals quarterback Nick Jokic threw a scoring strike to Wyatt Brown and rushed for 93 yards, and the Tier 2 bantams tied Cambridge 6-6.
Breton Pearcey had an interception and Brown recovered a fumble for Niagara.
Niagara’s lone loss of the weekend happened in Cambridge where the atom Generals dropped an 8-6 decision to the Lions. Scoring information was not provided.
