Too little, too late on NPCA

RE: EFFORT UNDERWAY BY REGIONAL COUNCIL TO REFORM NPCA BOARD, OCT. 8

So our slow-to-the-punch regional council is considering reforms to the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority board. If it wasn’t so sad it would be laughable. This is far too little far too late.

Were it not for Ed Smith and The Standard, the citizens of the region would be unaware of something our illustrious group of councillors should have been on top of a long time ago. Instead of dealing with the problems, they spent their time trying to cover up, obfuscate, and generally deny there was a problem, going so far as to take legal action against a citizen who had the audacity to question the Great Oz.

To add insult to egregious injury they moved the CAO of the NPCA whose management was under a cloud, to the Region, where he could effect even greater damage to the taxpayer and Region as a whole. Regional Chair Alan Caslin in his questionable wisdom tried to ensure CAO Carmen D’Angelo would continue to hold this position well beyond the current councillors’ terms.

What we sometimes forget as well when we consider the NPCA, these keystone cops we elected last time around are not only throwing away our tax dollars, they are playing God with our environment.

We need a very large broom to sweep the rot to the curb. As a citizen every voter has a duty to ensure they are well educated about each individual they choose to support. The cost of making a mistake is far too great. We need change for the better, based on a thorough knowledge of those who are running and their respective platforms.
