Falls, Hornblower appear on Monday Night Football
Niagara Falls will go prime time tonight when it’s featured during halftime of Monday Night Football.
For the first time in 10 years, the Buffalo Bills will host a Monday night game, squaring off against the New England Patriots. At the half, viewers will see rock band Bush perform at the Hornblower Niagara Cruises landing area.
The segment was taped in early October, when Bush played Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort.
“Bush happened to be in town for the casino, we were able to put this together in a matter of a couple of days,” says Greg Bechkos, Hornblower’s director of sales and marketing.
The British band, fronted by Gavin Rossdale, performed a shortened version of its ’90s hit “Comedown” in front of surprised onlookers at the Hornblower plaza with the American Falls and Hornblower boats in the background.
The performance is part of a halftime series for Monday Night Football sponsored by luxury automotive brand Genesis. Artists featured throughout the season include Ciara, Daughtry and the Zac Brown Band.
“Gavin Rossdale and the rest of the band were really into it,” says Bechkos. “They had a great crowd around. The people fortunate enough to hop on our boat that day got the extra pleasure of seeing a live concert.”
Hornblower was contacted by a production company working with Genesis in September about the spot, seeking an iconic location tied to the Buffalo area.
“There’s nothing more iconic than Niagara Falls,” says Bechkos. “They were looking for a great location to create a music video. We have the breathtaking views, and we have the falls as a backdrop.”
“This is prime time — it’s on ESPN in the U.S., it’s on TSN in Canada, and all across the world. It’s a great opportunity to showcase Niagara.”
Bechkos just hopes the Bills, with their 2-5 record, are competitive enough tonight that viewers stick around for the halftime show.
“We can’t control what happens on the field.”
