Museum commemorating end of First World War

-

This month marks 100 years since the first war to span the globe ended, and the St. Catharines museum is holding two events to mark the occasion.

On Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. the museum will host “Stories from the Front,” a dramatic production derived from letters, diaries and photographs of St. Catharines men and women who fought on the front lines and those who remained home.

“Stories from the Front” has been performed at local schools. Saturday’s presentation will take place in the Burgoyne Room. Tickets are $5 apiece and can be purchased by calling 905-984-8880 or online at stcatharines.ca/ eplay.

“This original production is an interactive way of telling our community’s war story and is steeped in personal memories,” said Sara Nixon, public programmer. “It’s a great opportunity to learn more about our local military history and contributions on the front lines and at home.”

As war ended 100 years ago celebrations broke out throughout the victorious countries.

At the end of the month the museum will be hosting a 1918 Victory Party. On Nov. 30 visitors can enjoy era-inspired décor, live music, food and drink, and costumed actors. People who come to the party are encouraged to dress in the fashions of the day. People who do dress up can enter a costume contest.

Social Ease Dance Studio will provide lessons and demonstrations for popular dances from 100 years ago.

Lock Street Brewing Co. will be offering beer, while Megalomaniac wines will be available. Organic non-alcoholic sodas can also be purchased.

The party is a 19-plus event and will run 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $10 a person and can be purchased in advance by calling 905-984-8880 or book via www.stcatharines.ca/eplay. If available, tickets can also be purchased at the door.
