- JEFF STEVENS

The first segment of the Niagara 5-Pin Mixed Pro League season ended with a stunning conclusion as the Scorecard Harry’s Half Pints won the segment title on the strength of their 2-1 win over the Ontario Street Boston Pizza Brutes, a match decided by only 12 pins.

The Half Pints were near the top of the standings all segment long, trailing closely behind the dominating Dale Mellway Life Insurance Magic, who only lost one match all segment, and just happened to pass them and stay there for the last two weeks of the segment. Shawn Pellizari led the winners with a solid 699 (210, 298) while getting help from Chris Disher’s 671 (220, 240). The Brutes answered with Brian McFarlane’s 736 (227, 266, 243) while Tim Dixon was close behind with 719 (340, 214). The Town Criers replied with Rob Fisher’s 658 (237, 236). Elsewhere, the Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Canucks finished their segment on a convincing note, blasting the Wine Place Whiners 3-0. The Whiners shot back with Rob Macdonald’s 669 (247, 213, 209) while Mickey Pikor added

616 (229). In the final match of the evening the Lakeside Electrical Lightning took two of their three games while settling for a rare tie against the Reggie’s Renovations Inc. Hammerheads.
