Kilty B’s sting Canucks on road
Special teams shared first-star honours Monday night when the Hamilton Kilty B’s came from behind to defeat the Niagara
Falls Canucks 7-3 in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena.
Hamilton scored three powerplay goals, a shorthanded goal and limited the Golden Horseshoe Conference-leading Canucks to one goal in five manadvantage opportunities.
Niagara Falls, which was seeking its seventh win in a row and third in four days, jumped out to a two-goal lead and was up 3-1 midway into the second period.
It was all Hamilton after that, with the Kilty B’s scoring six unanswered goals to improve to 2-1 in head-to-head play versus the Canucks and to 15-7-0-1 overall.
Niagara Falls fell to 20-3-0-1. Finding the back of the net for Hamilton were Marino Moro, two goals; Tanner Brennecke, Noah Bollert, Nick Cordeiro, Mark Duarte, T.J. Hughes.
Andrew Bruno, Patrick McCabe, Mitch Mendonca scored for the Canucks.
Shots on net were 38-31 in favour of the hosts.
Marco Constantini earned the win with a 28-save performance in net for the Kilty B’s.
Tagged with the loss was Zach Moore, who surrendered seven goals on 27 shots. Noah Fortuna shut out the Kilty B’s the rest of the way stopping 11 shots.
Hamilton went 3-for-6 on the power play.
The QEW rivals are back at it 7 p.m. Friday at Gale Centre, where the Kilty B’s skated to 4-1 victory Oct. 19 in their visit to Niagara Falls.
The Canucks opened the season series with a 4-1 road Oct. 15.
Wednesday’s Golden Horseshoe schedule has the Fort Erie
Meteors, 6-16-0-1; visiting the Lockport Regals, 3-17-1; for a 7 p.m. faceoff in western New York.
On Thursday, the Thorold Blackhawks, 9-11-1; are home to the Welland Jr. Canadians, 6-150-1. Game time is 7:07 p.m. Friday’s other game has the Pelham Panthers, 13-100-1; at the St. Catharines Falcons, 16-30-1; in a 7 p.m. faceoff at Jack Gatecliff Arena.
Winners of six in a row, the Falcons have earned at least one point in the past 16 games. Their last loss in regulation was a 4-2 setback Sept. 24 in Hamilton.
