Kilty B’s earn second shutout win in a row

Cal Schell earned his second shutout of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League season backstoppi­ng the visiting Hamilton Kilty B’s to a 3-0 victory over the Pelham Panthers.

Anthony Pinelli and Jordan Stock scored power-play goals and Holden Rogers an evenstreng­th marker as Hamilton improved to 19-9-0-1 with Sunday afternoon’s win at the new Meridian Community Centre in Fonthill.

Pelham fell to 16-11-0-2 in the opening game of a back-to-back, home-and-home series. The rematch takes place Monday night at Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena in Hamilton.

It was the second shutout in as many starts for the Kilty B’s. They blanked the Welland Jr. Canadians 10-0 last Thursday in Hamilton.

Shots on net in Sunday’s game were 30 aside. The Kilty B’s went 2-for-6 on the power play; the Panthers, 0-for-5.

Jr. Canadians 4, Meteors 3 OT

At Fort Erie, Matthew Maidens scored two goals, including the game-winner with 1:13 remaining in the first overtime, and Welland Jr. Canadians continued their season-long dominance over the Meteors.

Jarett Olbruck, shorthande­d, and Jacob Thomason also scored for Welland in Saturday night Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Leisureple­x.

Brady Lee, Evan Miller and Luca Mazzo found the back of the net for Fort Erie.

Welland improved to 3-0 in head-to-head play versus the Meteors and to 8-18-0-2 overall.

With the consolatio­n point, Fort Erie, 8-18-0-3, was able to stay in sixth place in the Golden Horseshoe Conference, one point ahead of the Jr. Canadians. Welland has a game in hand.

Welland outshot the Meteors 53-34 on a night when the referees were almost as busy as the goaltender­s. Fort Erie was assessed 49 minutes in penalties on 16 infraction­s; the Jr. Canadians, 34 minutes on 14 calls.

Welland went 1-for-9 on the power play; Fort Erie, 0-for-8.

Welland hosted the St. Catharines Falcons, 21-3-0-2, Sunday night. Next action for the Meteors is Saturday at home versus the Niagara Falls Canucks.

Canucks 4, Meteors 2

At Niagara Falls, Justin Kyle, with two, David D’Agostino and Patrick McCabe scored unanswered goals to lead the host past Fort Erie for their fourth win in a row.

Brady Lee and Kyle Sullivan

scored for the Meteors.

Niagara Falls, 24-3-0-1, outshot the Meteors 49-30 and went 1for-3 with a man advantage. Fort Erie finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play.

Falcons 12, Regals 2

At St. Catharines, the hosts downed Lockport for their fourth straight victory on goals from Noah Blakely, Carson Edwardson, Dawson McKinney, two apiece; Tanner Brown, Christian Girhiny, Dakota Miskolczi, Jacob Roach, Ethan Simms and Kyle West.

Brendan Murray and Russ Riggio scored for Lockport, 3-250-1.

The Falcons have earned at least a point in 22 games dating back to their last loss in regulation Sept. 24.

RiverHawks 2, Shamrocks 0

At Cambridge, Mathew Boere made 34 saves for his first shutout in junior C hockey backstoppi­ng Niagara past Hespeler.

Zachary Pettit and Jacob Saddler each scored a goal as the RiverHawks improved their record in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s South Bloomfield Division to 15-12-0-2.

Hespeler fell to 4-22-1-1.
