Meet your veggies

- ALISON LANGLEY

Think fresh, grow smart.

That’s the theme for the 17th annual Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Convention to be held at Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls Feb. 20 and 21.

“We have a great event planned for everyone this year and it will prove to be a hectic two plus days,” said Matt Peters, event president.

The convention will feature 120 speakers from across Canada, the U.S. and Europe as well as more than 250 exhibitors.

“We look forward to hosting the innovative fruit and vegetable growers and providing them with a platform to help them rise to the challenges of increasingly difficult market demands to achieve the noble goal of growing a healthy and sustainable food source for Canadians.”

On the competition side, there will be the Great Ontario-Hopped Craft Beer Competition and Ontario Cider Competition.

There will also be a Young Farmer Forum, targeted at farmers 40 and under from across the province, and a Women in Agriculture session featuring panellists who will discuss the role of women in horticulture.

“We are excited to expand on our commitment to promoting equality and inclusion in agriculture with the Woman in Ag networking breakfast event,” Peters said.
