Facer Street hosting first Christmas market

- EMERSON VAN DONGEN

The Facer Street district merchants and residents association is getting into the holiday spirit with an outdoor handmade market highlighting local crafters and artisans and their one-of-a-kind products.

“There’s no place like home for the holidays,” said Brody Longmuir, president of the Facer District Merchants and Residents Association.

“We are excited to bring our community together again. As friends and family come home for the holidays, we hope they will be able to join us to celebrate, fondly remember their childhood, and make new memories with their family.”

The Facer Christmas Market will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and follows a successful fourth annual

Facer Festival.

It will also feature a candlelight stroll along Facer Street and choirs from the community singing hymns and carols. A tree lighting ceremony happens at 5 p.m. in front of the Canadian Polish Society hall.

“We already have a wide array of vendors from jewellers to clothing designers to food trucks, but have room to include more at this family-friendly event,” said Lucy Kuczma, merchants association director. “On Dec. 7, Facer Street will be a one-stop shop for all your Christmas needs with treats and beautiful music, too.”

St. Joseph Bakery, The Italian Cafe, Your Deli, Canadian Polish Society, Aqua Fresca, Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church and Niagara Dream Centre will be open and serving hot meals and holiday treats.

Activities are planned for all ages at this free event, including free photos with Santa and a kids zone at Niagara Dream Centre with face painting and much more. Visitors can bring a new toy to donate to the Facer Toy Drive benefiting local families in need.

The Facer Christmas Market is a fundraising initiative to beautify the Facer District and celebrate the neighbourhood’s residents.
