Blackhawks top Hamilton Kilty B’s for second victory in a row

Thorold moves to within one point of Hamilton for fourth place

Joel Chauvin, Dylan Scriver each scored twice, Brett Bressette collected three assists, and the Thorold Blackhawks defeated the visiting Hamilton Kilty B’s 5-3.

Thursday’s win was the second in as many nights for Thorold (21-15-2-2), which moved to within one point of Hamilton (22-14-2-1) for fourth place in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Golden Horseshoe Conference. The Kilty B’s have a game in hand.

Nicholas Rubino rounded out the scoring for Thorold, while goaltender Noah Fortuna earned the victory as the ’Hawks outshot the Kilty B’s 41-37.

Nolan Slachetka, who began the Jr. B season with the Buffalo Regals, led Hamilton in scoring with two goals. Adam Clark also found the back of the net as the B’s lost for the second time in four games.

Thorold went 1-for-6 on the power play; Hamilton, 0-for-4.

Matteo Drobac stopped 36 of 40 shots in the loss, with Scriver scoring an insurance goal into an empty net with 28 seconds remaining in regulation.

Thorold is off until next Thursday when it hosts the Welland Jr. Canadians. Hamilton is home to St. Catharines Monday.

Second place in the nine-team conference was on the line last night at Jack Gatecliff Arena, where the St. Catharines Falcons hosted the Niagara Falls Canucks.

St. Catharines (27-9-2), winners of six in a row, leads Niagara Falls (258-2-2) by two points, but the Canucks have a game in hand.

Other Jr. B action last night had the Pelham Panthers (14-21-0-2) hosting the Welland Jr. Canadians (4-28-3-1) in the opening game of a weekend home-and-home. The series wraps up Sunday night at Welland Arena.

Rangers 4, RiverHawks 2

At Niagara Falls, visiting Glanbrook scored three unanswered goals and remained undefeated in head-tohead play with Niagara improving to 4-0.

Glanbrook (27-9-2) extended its streak of earning at least a point in six games with the come-from-behind victory over Niagara (12-300-3) in Thursday night’s Provincial Junior Hockey League Jr. C game at Gale Centre.

Jayden Engberts and Nick Duguid scored for the RiverHawks who were outshot 49-25 and finished 1-for-3 on the power play. Glanbrook went 2-for-6 with a man advantage.

Niagara was back on the ice last night visiting the Dunnville Mudcats (10-24-1-2).
