Youngs Insurance Brokers committed to acts of kindness

- DAVE JOHNSON

One act of kindness impacts many people. Youngs Insurance Brokers Inc. hopes to impact as many people as possible through its #GiveBackOntario 110 Acts of Kindness Challenge.

The challenge was launched Sunday as the company celebrates its 110th anniversary in Ontario.

“We are doing 110 acts of kindness, spreading positivity and getting people to join in,” said Lindsay Marshall, Youngs brand manager.

Marshall said those acts could be such things as children writing positive messages in chalk on sidewalks or people putting up signs of positivity in the windows of their homes.

“Anything that promotes kindness. We want to share the good news, we’re all kind of down with everything that is going on,” she said, adding employees, partners, clients and community members are encouraged to take part.

Marshall said Youngs employees would be “going heavy” this week and carrying out several acts of kindness a day across its 28 locations in the province, including Welland, Port Colborne, Niagara Falls and St. Catharines.

“We are committed to doing to 110 acts and the more we can do, the better.”

She said the company is partnered with Community Crew in St. Catharines, an organization that feeds more than 700 children each week in 12 different schools throughout Niagara Falls, Welland and St. Catharines.

“Kids counts on those meals … they’re still hungry at home. We’re going to give Community Crew a donation and we’re going to give out chalk for every single child so they can write or draw something on the ground.”

Each year between $100,000 and $150,000 is donated to charities, and #GiveBackOntario is part of Youngs’ legacy.

“Having the ability to directly improve our communities is beyond rewarding. It’s truly a part of our corporate identity and legacy; that’s something I’m incredibly proud of,” said Youngs president Sandy Valleriani, in a release.

Every month, Marshall said she and her team will select a few acts of kindness to share and promote via social media, including LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

She said people can use the #GiveBackOntario hashtag so the company can find it. People can also submit their acts of kindness directly to the company through its website.
