Brock grad Accursi turning professional

-

Hunter Accursi will join older sister Taylor when she begins her professional career with the Buffalo Beauts of the National Women’s Hockey League.

Accursi, 22, of Ancaster scored 10 goals and 16 points in 87 games over four seasons in the Ontario University Athletics conference with the Brock Badgers. She graduated with a degree in public health in June.

Brock women’s hockey head coach Margot Page said the Beauts are getting a defensiveminded forward who is effective at rattling opponents.

“She works hard to be first on the forecheck and loves disrupting the opponents’ breakouts,” Page said. “What is great about Hunter is that she is very competitive but brings a calm and positive presence to the team.”

Brock played Buffalo in an exhibition game last season, giving the Beauts a chance to see the younger Accursi in action.

“Hunter plays a complete game in all three zones. She’s a solid playmaker and she is relentless,” GM Nate Oliver said.

Accursi has always been interested in competing at the pro level, especially after following her sister’s career with the Beauts the past three years.

“It’s a bonus to be able to play on the same team as my sister,” Hunter Accursi said.
