We are profoundly saddened to announce the passing of Léonce Hardy on January 7, 2021 at the age of 87. He died peacefully while in the care of the COVID unit at St. Catharines General Hospital. Born and raised in Welland, Léonce retired from Atlas Steels in 1997 after more than 40 years of service. He was a hard worker who also loved fishing, bowling, watching hockey and most importantl­y, spending time with his family and beloved wife of 67 years, Aline (Lamontagne). He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfathe­r, great-grandfathe­r, uncle, son, brother and friend who touched many lives over the years. Léonce was predecease­d by his parents, Magella and Regina (Nadeau), stepmother Antoinette, brothers Lucien, Roland, Henry, René, Frank and Robert, sister Margaret (Moscato), son-in-law, Yvon Labonté and greatgrand­daughter, Adalynn Heaven Hardy. He is survived by his wife Aline, brother André, sisters Ginette (Gilbert) and Rita, and five children: Denis (Christine) Hardy, Lorraine Labonté, Carole (Jerry) Schertzing, Patrick (Fran) Hardy and Paul (Tammy) Hardy. In addition, he leaves behind many grandchild­ren, great-grandchild­ren and a great-great-grandchild. Though we'll miss him greatly, our hearts are full of gratitude for all the wonderful years we had with him. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the frontline workers of the Niagara Health System. Let's all do what we can to support these tireless individual­s who continue to show up every day in the face of the most dangerous public health crisis of our lifetime. Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID restrictio­ns, a private family service and burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciate­d.
