Brock and performing arts centre continue series on climate change
Brock University and Firstontario Performing Arts Centre will continue their series exploring theatre in the age of climate change this month.
After a successful event in November which featured five commissioned pieces performed online, a second batch of programming will be offered Feb. 12 to 14.
The second part of the series will include three commissioned performances, a livestreamed sneak peak of a new work by the Kaha:wi Dance Theatre and a panel discussion titled “Honouring Balance in Times of Crisis and Change: Strength in Indigenous Women’s Perspectives.” Taking part in the panel will be artists Audra Maloney, Diane Simon and Santee Smith. It will be moderated by Lyn Trudeau.
The event is convened by professors David Fancy and Karen Fricker of Brock’s department of dramatic arts (DART).
Fraser said the second part of the series will continue to focus “on the relationship between performance and climate crisis.”
Added Fancy: “We are enthusiastic about the intersections between the Indigenous women’s panel, responses to the climate crisis and the moves towards Indigenization and decolonization at Brock.”
The series stems from the Walker Cultural Leaders Series at Brock, which commissioned 10 regional theatre artists to create short online presentations exploring the climate crisis in relation to their interests. The first were shown at the Nov. 13 to 15 livestreamed event.
Fancy said nearly all of the commissioned works came from DART graduates.
The series resumes Feb. 12 at 5 p.m., Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. and Feb. 14 at 2 p.m.
All digital events are free and available to view on the Firstontario Performing Arts Centre and Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts Facebook and Youtube pages until Feb. 28.
