St. Catharines man charged with sex crimes
Josh Ogburn, also known as Josh Briscoe, was an executive with Ontario Lacrosse Association
A St. Catharines man faces sexrelated charges in connection with incidents alleged to have occurred more than 10 years ago.
On Wednesday, Guelph police said they began investigating a complaint last month involving events said to have happened in 2006 and 2007 involving an alleged victim who was 17 at the time.
Officers arrested Josh Ogburn, 42, who they said is also known as Josh Briscoe, and charged him with luring a child and sexual exploitation.
In a release, they said Ogburn/ Briscoe is from St. Catharines but was living in Orangeville at the time the incidents are said to have occurred.
Police did not release further details, but said at the time they were believed to have occurred when Ogburn/briscoe was involved with the Ontario Lacrosse Association.
In its own release on Feb. 21, the Ontario Lacrosse Association said it “was recently made aware of potential misconduct and formal criminal charges laid against former Ontario Minor Field Lacrosse League executive Josh Briscoe, also known as Josh Ogburn.”
Noting the incidents are alleged to have happened before he assumed an executive role, it said Ogburn/briscoe “has been suspended from all roles and responsibilities governed by the Ontario Lacrosse Association.”
Guelph police are asking anyone with information on the alleged incidents, or any others involving Ogburn/briscoe, to contact Det. Const. Dave Gamsby at 519-824-1212 ext. 7505 or email dgamsby@guelphpolice.ca.
Ogburn/briscoe is scheduled to appear in court in Guelph on May 14.
