While the Crown has closed its case in the triple murder trial of Liam Stinson, a legal issue continues to be dealt with behind the scenes.

That legal issue - which cannot be disclosed due to the absence of the jury and a publication ban - saw court time used on Thursday and Monday to address it.

The jury, which Superior Court Justice Dan Cornell instructed late Thursday to return Tuesday morning, will now come back Wednesday morning.

Stinson, 27, is facing three counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Jamie-Lynn Rose, Guy (Popcorn) Henri and Jasmine Somers.

He is also charged with one count of intentionally or recklessly causing damage by fire to a dwelling house causing bodily harm.

David Cheff was badly injured when his townhouse on Bruce Avenue was firebombed before dawn on April 11, 2021.

He survived but Somers, Henri and Rose died.

The fire was determined to have been deliberately set.

Stinson was arrested on April 20, 2021, and remains in custody.

To date, the trial has heard evidence from about 15 Crown witnesses including the two men who set the fire using two Molotov cocktails just before 5 a.m. April 11, 2021.

The Crown is alleging Stinson got those men to start the fire.

The trial started on March 19 and is scheduled to go seven weeks.
