Great Fogo Island Punt Race

-

With the Fogo Island Inn in the background, Craig Whittle (left) and Chris Neary row a Frank Combden-built punt in the Great Fogo Island Punt Race "To There and Back" Saturday at Joe Batt's Arm. Whittle and Neary, perhaps best-known as members of multiple winning crews at the Royal St. John's Regatta, finished second in the Fogo race, which was conducted over 11.5 kilometres of open water. Their time of 46 minutes and 44 seconds was just under two minutes behind the winners and defending champions, Craig Freake and Kevin Purchase, rowing in a Herbert Saunders-built boat. The Great Fogo Island Punt Race has been held since 2007.
